Beginners Welcome

We’re a new club established in 2023 to welcome new players to kayaking and Canoe Polo in Swansea and the surrounding areas.

Everyone is welcome, and we are especially looking for members to join our youth (12-18) and Women’s teams, with or without kayaking experience.

We currently have 2 training sessions, one at Pontardawe on Thursday’s and another at Penlan on Sunday’s and beginners are welcome at both sessions. If you’ve played before and want to come along and train with us, you’re welcome to join us on Sunday’s.

We’re a socially active club and a great place to meet new friends both for players and parents. We travel to tournaments around Wales, the UK and internationally, and hope host our own friendly tournaments in Swansea for our members and other local clubs.

Register, or get in touch if you want to come along. Feel free to message us on Whatsapp, Facebook or Instagram and you can call 01792 823488.

Fitness, Team Work, Individual Skill

As a beginner you’ll learn essential skills such as how to control your boat, and practice and improve while playing Canoe Polo.

Our coaches will teach you new skills as you progress including both game play tactics and kayaking skills such as bracing techniques (to keep yourself upright!) and rolling your kayak with many members also participating in White Water and Surf Kayaking.

There are competitions for Under 14’s, Under 18’s, Under 21’s, Women and Open including Welsh 4’s, Welsh Open International, South West Regional, National League and National Championships.

For our youth members there are opportunities to join Welsh Development sessions with children from clubs across Wales meet to train together with Wales and GB players and coaches with many having the opportunity to represent Wales internationally.

Tawe Kayak Club

We were originally a section of Tawe Kayak Club and many of our members are now members of both clubs, if you’re interested in other disciplines like White Water and Surf, we have close ties so there are opportunities to paddle other disciplines available.

Youth, Womens & Mixed Open Teams

Canoe Polo is an inclusive sport with mixed teams. Our Youth team is open to members aged 12 and above, and our womens team is open to members aged 14 and above. Most of our members are between 12 and 40 years old, some have been paddling all of their lives and many have only recently started.

Here’s a few clips from Tamzin’s point of view (age 13), who is a member of our Youth, Women’s and Open teams.

And here’s some footage from the poolside of us practising zone kills at our Pontardawe session.
