Swansea Canoe Polo Club

April 2024

Our first ‘newsletter’ of sorts… if anyone’s keen to help with these in future, make it known 🙂

Here’s a little recap of April 2024…

Penlan

Our final session at Penlan for the Summer had a fantastic turnout with our friends from Swansea University Canoe Club joining us with their Women’s team for games… it took a little while to sort a mishap with one of the goal rope’s getting stuck in the roof space, but once resolved much fun was had by all with some enjoyable friendly games.

Great to see the pool full of boats with all 3 goals up and the training pool in use and we look forward to returning to Penlan for the winter in October.

Outdoor Training - North Dock

We held our first session outdoors at North Dock on Sunday the 21st with a good turnout with over 15 paddlers on the water.

The weather was quite forgiving and it was surprisingly warm, great to see everyone enjoying themselves – with many paddling outdoor for the first time.

We also got to try out some of our new gear, including helmets and some cags for new members.

If you’d like to come along, get in touch – the sessions are suitable for everyone.

Floating Goals

Thanks to a grant from the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust we were able to buy floating goals to get us started with outdoor training – the awarded funding also includes funds for everything else we need to get a basic outdoor training facility set up, and we’ll purchase everything else once we know what we need.

After a 6 hour trip across the country to pick them up, we gave them their first test at North Dock. For now we’ll be deploying the goals on a temporary basis but discussions are in progress for a permanent long term venue.

If any other clubs would like to make use of our facilities, get in touch and we can figure out the details!

National League

We entered 2 teams into the National League in Division 3 South West which was held at Taff Bargoed.  A fairly chilly but enjoyable weekend, and the sun came out to say hello for a bit on Sunday.

Both teams played excellently and our A team took second place for this round, round two will be at the end of June. Well done everyone!
